  • Okmulgee was the first large Native American town in the Southeastern United States. The original acropolis was occupied from 900 AD to 1150 AD. One of its suburban towns was occupied until 1838 AD. Okmulgee and its suburban villages stretched for 16 km (10 miles) along a fertile river valley.

 

  • Etalwa was where a distinct Creek Indian culture took shape. It was occupied from 980 AD to about 1585 AD. Today, the word for city in the Creek language is etalwa.

 

  • Tuckabachee was a Creek Indian town that had both traditional buildings and log houses copied from the European settlers. It was occupied from about 1700 AD - 1836 AD.
