President Lincoln's main goal for the war was to "preserve the union"(1). Lincoln and the U.S.A. saw the southern states as "treasonous"(2) and did not except the idea of secession as our founding fathers did with England but maintained the south was part of the Union after secession(3). Therefore Lincoln never excepted the idea of the Confederate States of America (C.S.A.) as their own country. In May of 2010 I'm going to be involved in a very unique reenacting event. Its name is "March for Redemption". It will involve a fund raising march of some 150 miles. The premise of the event is that a small group of Federal soldiers desert their post at Harpers Ferry and go home. We will leave Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and will go across the Potomac River to the top of Maryland Heights.
