Letter written from hospital by Joseph G. Barton of Warren, Vt. Barton was a private in Company H, 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters, enlisted December 11, 1863, mustered into U.S. service Dec. 18, 1863; was wounded May 31, 1864, at Totopotomoy Creek, Va., died of wounds August 26, 1864.

Dear Wife

I'm this time to answer a few lines from Mr Blake I would
like to hear how you are not About you but the son beside
your bed and that you wanted to know how long befor I was
comming home I dont exspect any more news from home Again
for about a month As for my self I am gaining very slow
my leg is not all heald up yet I dont sit up any yet about
my being able to come home i dont know when I shall get
smart enough
I must close
